What Is MELLANOX-SMI-MIB?
MELLANOX-SMI-MIB is a Structure-of-Management-Information registration module for Mellanox Technologies, a vendor of high-performance networking (InfiniBand/Ethernet) switches and adapters, later acquired by NVIDIA. It contains no runtime managed objects itself; it only establishes the enterprise OID arc under which Mellanox's actual functional MIBs register their object groups. Because it is a pure namespace module, it carries no direct hardware/software status data — temperature, port, or fabric health objects live in the sibling Mellanox MIBs that import this registration. Its dependency is structural: every other Mellanox SNMP MIB module builds on this registration arc as a prerequisite. It's deployed as a load-time dependency wherever Mellanox switches or adapters are SNMP-managed. Consulting the MELLANOX-SMI-MIB OID list is useful mainly for confirming where the enterprise arc sits before locating the actual port and environmental objects in Mellanox's functional MIBs.

Monitoring Examples
This module defines only OID registration points and no OBJECT-TYPE data instances, so there is no monitoring scenario to describe; port, fabric, and environmental status must be retrieved from the separate functional Mellanox MIBs that register under this arc.
