Category: QoS, Traffic Shaping

Description: Monitors and controls MICOM traffic management policies and queue statistics.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is MICOM-TRAFFIC-MGMT-MIB?

This is a MICOM Communications vendor MIB module for traffic management on MICOM WAN access equipment, defining QoS-style traffic class parameters and queue statistics for frame relay/MPANL circuits. It exposes per-traffic-class configuration such as priority, Committed Information Rate (CIR), Excess Information Rate, and maximum burst size in bytes/frames, indexed by SCC number or Frame Relay/MPANL DLCI number. Its monitoring value is in confirming traffic shaping/policing configuration is correctly applied per circuit and, via average packet size and burst parameters, understanding whether traffic patterns match provisioned service levels, which helps explain congestion or discard behavior on a WAN link. It builds on general frame relay/ATM-style traffic contract concepts (CIR/EIR/burst size) rather than a specific IETF standard MIB. It would be deployed on MICOM WAN multiplexers/routers enforcing traffic management policies on frame relay or MPANL circuits. Engineers can download the MICOM-TRAFFIC-MGMT-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in MICOM-TRAFFIC-MGMT-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • MICOM WAN multiplexer/router

Monitoring Examples

An operator would poll mcmTMclassParamTable / mcmTMclassParamEntry indexed by mcmTMclassParamSccNum, FRDlciNum, or MPANLDlciNum to check mcmTMclassParamCIR and ExcessInfoRate, confirming a circuit's traffic contract matches the provisioned service level agreement. mcmTMclassParamMaxBurstBytesSz/MaxBurstFrmSz and mcmTMclassParamAvgPacketSize would be reviewed when investigating unexpected packet discards, potentially revealing that actual traffic bursts exceed the configured burst size. mcmTMclassParamPriority lets an admin verify QoS priority assignment per traffic class.

What Can Be Monitored

  • traffic class CIR/excess information rate
  • maximum burst size (bytes/frames)
  • average packet size
  • traffic class priority
