Description: Cisco ME1200 Metro Ethernet switch MIB implementing LLDP-MED extensions for VoIP endpoint discovery and network policy.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is ME1200-LLDPMED-MIB?
ME1200-LLDPMED-MIB is a Cisco private MIB implementing LLDP-MED (Link Layer Discovery Protocol - Media Endpoint Discovery) extensions specifically for the Cisco ME 1200 Metro Ethernet access switch, used to discover and configure VoIP endpoints and location/network policy information. It exposes configuration data such as global LLDP-MED timing (fast repeat count), emergency location coordinates (latitude, longitude, altitude, ELIN address, datum), and detailed civic location fields (county, city, city district, block) used for E911-style location services. Its monitoring role centers on network/software configuration state rather than hardware sensors, helping confirm that location information advertised to VoIP endpoints is correctly configured and that LLDP-MED discovery is active on the switch. As a private extension of the standard LLDP-MED MIB, it explicitly builds on that IETF/ANSI TIA-1057 standard while adding Cisco ME 1200-specific configuration objects. It is typically deployed on Cisco ME 1200 Metro Ethernet switches in service-provider access networks delivering VoIP or unified communications services to end customers. Network engineers evaluating or troubleshooting this functionality can download the ME1200-LLDPMED-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in ME1200-LLDPMED-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Cisco ME 1200 Metro Ethernet switch
Monitoring Examples
An administrator would check me1200LldpmedConfigGlobalLatitude, me1200LldpmedConfigGlobalLongitude, and me1200LldpmedConfigGlobalAltitude to verify a switch is advertising the correct physical location to connected VoIP phones, important for E911 compliance. me1200LldpmedConfigLocationInformationCity and me1200LldpmedConfigLocationInformationBlock would be checked when civic address details appear incorrect on emergency call records. me1200LldpmedConfigGlobalFastRepeatCount would be reviewed if LLDP-MED neighbor discovery seems slow to converge after a phone is plugged in.
What Can Be Monitored
- LLDP-MED global configuration state
- location coordinates (lat/long/altitude)
- ELIN emergency address
- civic location fields (county/city/block)
- fast repeat count

In addition, it is best to advertise only those pieces of information which are specifically relevant to particular endpoint types (for example only advertise the voice network policy to permitted voice-capable devices), both in order to conserve the limited LLDPU space and to reduce security and system integrity issues that can come with inappropriate knowledge of the network policy. With this in mind LLDP-MED defines an LLDP-MED Fast Start interaction between the protocol and the application layers on top of the protocol, in order to achieve these related properties. Initially, a Network Connectivity Device will only transmit LLDP TLVs in an LLDPDU. Only after an LLDP-MED Endpoint Device is detected, will an LLDP-MED capable Network Connectivity Device start to advertise LLDP-MED TLVs in outgoing LLDPDUs on the associated port. The LLDP-MED application will temporarily speed up the transmission of the LLDPDU to start within a second, when a new LLDP-MED neighbor has been detected in order share LLDP-MED information as fast as possible to new neighbors. Because there is a risk of an LLDP frame being lost during transmission between neighbors, it is recommended to repeat the fast start transmission multiple times to increase the possibility of the neighbors receiving the LLDP frame. With fast start repeat count it is possible to specify the number of times the fast start transmission would be repeated. The recommended value is 4 times, given that 4 LLDP frames with a 1 second interval will be transmitted, when an LLDP frame with new information is received. It should be noted that LLDP-MED and the LLDP-MED Fast Start mechanism is only intended to run on links between LLDP-MED Network Connectivity Devices and Endpoint Devices, and as such does not apply to links between LAN infrastructure elements, including Network Connectivity Devices, or other types of links. |

A receiving link partner may inform the transmitter of an alternate desired Tw_sys_tx. RFC description
Manages Link Layer Discovery Protocol Media Endpoint Discovery on Cisco ME1200 switch.
Start monitoring Cisco ME1200 Metro Ethernet switch (LLDP-MED VoIP/location discovery) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
