Description: Marvell Computer Communications Switched Port Analyzer (SPAN) MIB for configuring port mirroring and traffic monitoring sessions.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is MARVELL-SPAN-MIB?

MARVELL-SPAN-MIB is a Marvell switch-silicon module (rlSpan prefix) for configuring Switched Port Analyzer (SPAN) sessions that mirror traffic from one or more source ports to a destination monitoring port. It exposes destination-session tables (mode, interface, reflector, port type) and source-session tables (session ID and source type) used to set up port mirroring for troubleshooting or traffic capture. As a largely configuration-oriented MIB, its monitoring value is mainly in confirming the current mirroring topology is active and correctly wired, e.g. that a destination port row is in active RowStatus and pointed at the right ifIndex. It is a vendor extension tied to Marvell's switch silicon rather than a general IETF standard, and typically works alongside standard IF-MIB interface indices. It is deployed on switches built on Marvell chipsets, common in white-box and OEM switch platforms, where network engineers need to capture traffic for diagnostics. Engineers can download the MARVELL-SPAN-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in MARVELL-SPAN-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • switch built on Marvell switching silicon

Monitoring Examples

An engineer configuring a mirroring session would set rlSpanDestinationIfIndex and rlSpanDestinationPortType in rlSpanDestinationTable, then confirm rlSpanDestinationRowStatus shows the session as active. Checking rlSpanSourceTable for a given rlSpanSourceSessionId confirms which ports (rlSpanSourceType) are feeding traffic into that mirror session. If captured traffic isn't appearing on the analyzer port, verifying rlSpanDestinationIsReflector and the RowStatus values would reveal a misconfigured or inactive SPAN session.

What Can Be Monitored

  • SPAN destination port and interface
  • SPAN session row status
  • SPAN source ports and session ID
  • reflector port configuration
  • SPAN destination port type
