What Is LLDP-V2-TC-MIB?

LLDP-V2-TC-MIB is a vendor-neutral IETF/IEEE textual-convention MIB that defines the shared data types used across the IEEE 802.1AB-2016 (LLDP version 2) family of MIB modules, including chassis ID subtype, port ID subtype, and TLV type enumerations. It defines no managed objects, tables, or notifications of its own; it exists solely so that the actual LLDP MIB modules (and vendor extensions) can reference a common, consistent set of type definitions rather than redefining them. Consequently it has no direct role in monitoring hardware or software status - any LLDP-based neighbor discovery, port identification, or management-address monitoring happens in the companion LLDP MIB modules that import these TCs, and browsing the LLDP-V2-TC-MIB OID tree confirms this directly, since it contains only type definitions with no object identifiers assigned to actual managed objects. Its dependency relationship is foundational: essentially every IEEE 802.1AB v2 MIB module (and vendor LLDP extensions) imports type definitions from this module. It is used industry-wide wherever Ethernet switches and other LLDP-capable network devices implement standards-based neighbor discovery.

Monitoring Examples

This module contains only textual conventions (data type definitions) and no MODULE-IDENTITY, tables, or notifications, so it defines no runtime data an administrator could poll directly. Its types, such as chassis/port ID subtype enumerations, are consumed by the operative LLDP-MIB and LLDP-EXT-DOT1/DOT3-MIB tables that actually expose neighbor information. There is no monitoring scenario to describe for this module in isolation.
