What Is IEEE8021-EVB-MIB?

IEEE8021-EVB-MIB is the standard IEEE 802.1 Working Group MIB (part of IEEE Std 802.1Q) managing Edge Virtual Bridging (EVB), which coordinates VLAN/VSI configuration between a hypervisor's virtual switch and the adjacent physical bridge via VDP (VSI Discovery and Configuration Protocol) and ECP (Edge Control Protocol). Its objects cover system type, external port count, EVB LLDP transmit-enable/manual/GID-capable flags, ECP acknowledgment timer/default-timer-expiry/max-retries, VDP default resource-wait-delay/reinit-keepalive (with expiry variants), a bridge-port (SBP) table (component ID, port number, LLDP manual mode, operational VDP resource-wait-delay/reinit-keepalive/timeout), and a VSI database table. As a configuration/protocol-status MIB it lets an administrator confirm ECP/VDP timer settings that govern how quickly a virtual machine's network configuration propagates to the physical switch. It is deployed on network devices implementing IEEE 802.1Qbg Edge Virtual Bridging. How to Use in IPNetwork Monitor

Example using ieee8021BridgeEvbVDPCommandsSucceeded OID:

Select a device implementing IEEE8021-EVB-MIB as the target host to create a monitor — the SNMP service should be up and running on it. Click New Monitor, then check SNMP Custom on the Favorites tab, click Next, and confirm the host. On the next page, click Select... to open the built-in SNMP MIB Browser and type ieee8021BridgeEvbVDPCommandsSucceeded into the Find box to locate it in the OID tree, selecting the specific row/instance you want to monitor since this is a table column, then select it and click OK. This object specifies the VDP number of successful commands since creation. On the monitor's Main parameters page you can set the target's SNMP port (default 161), credentials, polling interval, and other settings — see the SNMP Monitor help for details. On the State conditions and Alerting tabs, configure when the monitor should change state and trigger an alert; since this is a Counter32-type OID, Value bounds is the most useful condition here — trigger an alert if the counter increases sharply between polls relative to its normal baseline, since an unexpected spike often reflects a real change in traffic or activity. Click Finish to create the monitor; you can adjust any parameter later.
