Description: IEEE 802.1 LLDP extension MIB for Provider Edge bridging, defining TLV objects for IEEE 802.1ad provider bridge environments.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is LLDP-EXT-DOT1-PE-MIB?
LLDP-EXT-DOT1-PE-MIB is a vendor-neutral IEEE standards MIB, part of the LLDP (Link Layer Discovery Protocol) 802.1 extension family, that carries IEEE 802.1BR Port Extension TLV information -- covering cascade port priority, Port Extender (PE) address, and Controlling Bridge/Port Extender (CSP) addressing between local and remote LLDP peers. It exposes local, remote, and configuration tables describing port-extension topology rather than performance counters, so its category is topology/configuration discovery. Its monitoring value is confirming correct discovery and neighbor-relationship health between a controlling bridge and its port extenders -- effectively a link/topology-status check that flags cabling or configuration mismatches in 802.1BR fabrics, rather than CPU/temperature-style hardware health. It explicitly depends on and extends the base LLDP-MIB (IEEE 802.1AB) since it is rooted under the LLDP extension arc and reuses LLDP's local/remote port model. It is deployed on data center switches and port extenders that implement IEEE 802.1BR distributed/cascaded switching architectures. Engineers implementing or auditing this functionality typically reference the LLDP-EXT-DOT1-PE-MIB RFC/standard documentation for the authoritative specification.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in LLDP-EXT-DOT1-PE-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, not tied to a specific manufacturer
- IEEE 802.1BR-capable switch or port extender
Monitoring Examples
An operator would compare lldpXdot1PeLocPortExtensionTable entries (lldpXdot1PeLocPECascadePortPriority, lldpXdot1PeLocPEAddress, lldpXdot1PeLocPECSPAddress) against the corresponding lldpXdot1PeRemPortExtensionTable entries (lldpXdot1PeRemPECascadePortPriority, lldpXdot1PeRemPEAddress) discovered from a neighbor. A mismatch between the locally configured cascade port priority and what the remote peer reports, or a remote table that unexpectedly stops updating, would indicate a misconfigured or disconnected port-extender link in the 802.1BR topology.
What Can Be Monitored
- local/remote cascade port priority
- port extender (PE) address
- controlling bridge/CSP address
- port extension TLV transmit enable state
