What Is IEEE8021-CFM-MIB?

IEEE8021-CFM-MIB is the vendor-neutral IEEE 802.1 standards MIB implementing Connectivity Fault Management (CFM, IEEE 802.1ag) for Carrier Ethernet OAM, used to detect, verify, and isolate connectivity faults across bridged/VLAN networks. It exposes configuration and status data for Maintenance Domains, Maintenance Associations, and Maintenance association End Points (MEPs), including how MEPs stack against interfaces and VLANs. It supports software/protocol status monitoring: via the CFM stack table an operator can see which MEP is active on a given interface/VLAN combination, and receive fault notifications when a MEP loses continuity with its peers, though it does not cover physical sensors like temperature or power. It depends on the base IEEE 802.1Q bridge/VLAN model and typically works alongside IF-MIB (via ifIndex references in the stack table) for interface correlation. An operator can poll dot1agCfmStackTable/dot1agCfmStackEntry (indexed by dot1agCfmStackifIndex and dot1agCfmStackVlanIdOrNone) to see which MEPs (dot1agCfmStackMepId, dot1agCfmStackMacAddress) are stacked on which interface and maintenance domain level (dot1agCfmStackMdLevel), and watch for a MEP disappearing from the table or a dot1agNotifications trap firing, which signals a lost continuity check / connectivity fault between MEPs. The dot1agCfmVlanTable further confirms which VLANs have CFM instances associated with a maintenance association.
