Category: Network Management

Description: Manages MacIP gateway routing of IP traffic over AppleTalk networks.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is MacIP-MIB?

MacIP-MIB is a private MIB (enterprise OID 63) extending the standard APPLETALK-MIB with MacIP gateway configuration, a protocol tunneling IP traffic for Macintosh clients over AppleTalk networks. Its objects cover the count and starting address of statically and dynamically assigned MacIP addresses, plus configurable idle, NBP-confirm, and PING timeout values (each with an enable flag). As a configuration MIB it lets an administrator confirm the static/dynamic address pool sizes and timeout behavior for MacIP client sessions. It is deployed on AppleTalk-to-IP gateway devices providing MacIP service to legacy Macintosh clients. Engineers can download the MacIP-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in MacIP-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • AppleTalk-to-IP gateway devices (MacIP service)

Monitoring Examples

An administrator checks macipNumDynamicAddresses against the number of active Mac clients to confirm the dynamic MacIP address pool has enough headroom before adding more Macintosh workstations to the network.

What Can Be Monitored

  • static/dynamic MacIP address pool size and timeout configuration
