Category: Network Management
Description: Manages Ethernet-specific port options on LANoptics network hub modules.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is LANOPTICS-ETHERNET-OPTION-MIB?
This is a LANoptics proprietary MIB for configuring Ethernet-specific port options on LANoptics network hub modules, an older generation of managed Ethernet hub/repeater hardware. It exposes alert level and alert buffer configuration, statistics buffer controls, and per-slot polling structures for the hub's Ethernet modules. Its monitoring value centers on hardware event/alert visibility: the alert buffer and statistics buffer objects let an administrator retrieve recent port-level alerts and traffic statistics from a slot to detect abnormal conditions such as repeated errors or resets on a hub module. It appears to be a self-contained proprietary MIB with no notable external standards dependency beyond general Ethernet repeater/hub management concepts. It is deployed on legacy LANoptics Ethernet hub/repeater chassis in older enterprise network wiring closets. Engineers can download the LANOPTICS-ETHERNET-OPTION-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in LANOPTICS-ETHERNET-OPTION-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- LANoptics Ethernet hub/repeater
Monitoring Examples
An administrator would poll etAlertsBuffer alongside etAlertsLevel to review recent alert events recorded for a slot, and check etFullStatisticsBuffer via the etSlotsTable/etSlotsEntry to retrieve traffic statistics for a given slot's Ethernet module. If the alert buffer repeatedly fills and etResetBuffers must be invoked frequently, that pattern would indicate a persistently faulty port or module needing hardware replacement.
What Can Be Monitored
- per-slot alert buffer contents
- alert severity level
- per-slot traffic statistics buffer
- buffer reset events
