All MIBs › NGWASYNC
Category: Network Management
Description: Manages asynchronous communication settings and port configuration for Novell GroupWise gateways.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is NGWASYNC?
NGWASYNC is a Novell GroupWise enterprise (wpcorp) MIB for managing the asynchronous communication gateway component of GroupWise, which handles message transfer over async/dial links between GroupWise post offices or foreign systems. It exposes gateway identity and uptime, link status to the GroupWise domain and to foreign (non-GroupWise) systems, and message/byte throughput and error counters for inbound and outbound traffic. As a monitoring tool it is used to track software/service health of the gateway process itself (uptime, link connectivity) alongside performance counters such as messages and bytes transferred and error counts, which together reveal whether the async gateway is up, backlogged, or experiencing transmission errors. It is a self-contained Novell/wpcorp enterprise MIB with no apparent dependency on external standard MIBs. It is deployed in organizations running Novell GroupWise messaging infrastructure that still relies on asynchronous/dial-up links to interconnect post offices or gateways to external mail systems. Engineers can download the NGWASYNC file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in NGWASYNC. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Novell GroupWise asynchronous gateway server
Monitoring Examples
An administrator polls ngwasyncUptime to confirm the gateway process has not restarted unexpectedly, and reviews ngwasyncGroupWiseLink and ngwasyncFrgnLink to verify connectivity to the internal GroupWise domain and any foreign mail system is up. Rising values in ngwasyncOutErrors or ngwasyncInErrors alongside stagnant ngwasyncOutMsgs/ngwasyncInMsgs would indicate the gateway is failing to transfer mail, while ngwasyncOutBytes/ngwasyncInBytes trending near zero during business hours would suggest the async link itself is down.
What Can Be Monitored
- gateway uptime
- GroupWise domain link status
- foreign system link status
- inbound/outbound message counts
- inbound/outbound byte counts
- inbound/outbound transfer errors
