Category: Network Management

Description: Monitors MICOM Network Access Server sessions, users, and port statistics.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is MICOM-NAS-MIB?

This is a MICOM Communications private MIB for their Network Access Server (NAS) product, a dial-up/remote-access concentrator handling user sessions and address resolution over legacy protocols (DECnet-related OSCAR/DNA and NACH). It exposes counters for name/address resolution activity (DNA requests, resolved/unresolved lookups), registration activity, and NACH hello/session statistics, alongside an address database size object. Its monitoring value lies in software/service status of the access server: unresolved-request and registration-failure counters reveal client connectivity problems, while hello counters and table sizes indicate how actively the NAS is servicing remote sessions. It is a legacy, self-contained vendor MIB tied to MICOM's proprietary NAS protocols rather than any modern IETF RADIUS/AAA standard. It was deployed in enterprise remote-access environments using MICOM NAS hardware for dial-up or terminal access to DECnet-based networks. Network engineers evaluating or troubleshooting this functionality can download the MICOM-NAS-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in MICOM-NAS-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • MICOM Network Access Server

Monitoring Examples

An administrator would poll nasInDNAUnResolveds against nasInDNARequests to compute a resolution failure rate, flagging DNS/DNA lookup problems affecting incoming sessions. nasOSCARRegFails rising relative to nasOSCARRegSuccess would indicate a registration problem preventing users from establishing sessions on the NAS. nasDNDNAdbSize would be tracked over time to ensure the address database isn't approaching a capacity limit that could degrade lookup performance.

What Can Be Monitored

  • DNA/address resolution request and failure counts
  • registration success/failure counts
  • NACH hello statistics
  • address database size
