Description: IETF IP Fast ReRoute (IPFRR) MIB providing SNMP objects for monitoring loop-free alternate and repair paths for fast IP recovery.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is IPFRR-MIB?

IPFRR-MIB is a vendor-neutral IETF draft standard MIB for managing IP Fast Reroute (IP-FRR), a mechanism that lets routers precompute loop-free alternate (LFA) backup paths so traffic can be rerouted within milliseconds after a link or node failure, before the routing protocol reconverges. It exposes configuration and state objects describing which interfaces/prefixes have backup paths computed and available. Its monitoring value is primarily software/protocol-state: confirming that fast-reroute protection is actually active and that backup paths exist where expected, which is critical for validating resiliency claims on a router rather than checking any physical component. As an IP routing extension it depends on and is used alongside the base IP-MIB/routing MIBs (and typically OSPF/IS-IS MIBs) for full context. It would be deployed on carrier or enterprise core/edge routers running IP-FRR-capable routing protocols to verify sub-second failover protection is in place. Engineers implementing or auditing this functionality typically reference the IPFRR-MIB RFC/standard documentation for the authoritative specification.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in IPFRR-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, not tied to a specific manufacturer
  • IP routers supporting Fast Reroute

Monitoring Examples

No sample object names were provided in the source extract for this module, so specific table or object identifiers cannot be responsibly invented. Based on the module description (a draft IETF MIB for IP Fast-Reroute), a typical scenario would be polling per-prefix or per-interface objects to confirm a loop-free alternate path is provisioned and to alert if protection coverage drops after a topology change. Without concrete object names, further detail would be speculative.
