ipFrrAltProtectionAvailable
Module: IPFRR-MIB
OID (symbolic): IPFRR-MIB::ipFrrAltProtectionAvailable
OID (numeric): 1.3.6.1.2.1.4.999.1.2.1.5
Node type: OBJECT-TYPE
Type: Bits
Access: read-create
Description: This object specifies the scope of protection for which this alternate next-hop can provide failure protection. The alternate next-hop should provide one or more of node-protection and link-protection. If the protection provided by the alternate next-hop is unknown, then only unknownProtection should be specified. Specifying uknownProtection with any other type of protection is not supported.
What is ipFrrAltProtectionAvailable?
Specifies what scope of failure this alternate next-hop actually protects against - nodeProtect, linkProtect, or unknownProtection (mutually exclusive with the other two). Admins check this bitmask to know whether a given backup path would survive just a link cut or also a full failure of the primary next-hop router, informing which failures the network can truly fast-reroute around. A row showing only linkProtect set, not nodeProtect, means an admin should not assume that alternate would kick in if the next-hop router itself crashed, only if the link to it went down.
