What Is INTEL-GEN-MIB?

INTEL-GEN-MIB is a general-purpose device MIB from Intel providing a common set of SNMP management objects for system identification and basic configuration, intended to be embedded across a range of Intel-based network or server management agents. It exposes system identity data (vendor name, product name, product subtype, MIB version), time-of-day and date settings, a system reset control, and tables for configuration entries and system logs. It is explicitly useful for monitoring both hardware and software status: sysTimeOfDay/sysSystemDate reflect device clock and uptime-adjacent state, sysReset provides a remote reset/reboot control, sysConfTable and sysConfChange track configuration state and change events, and sysLogTable exposes system log entries for diagnosing faults. As a vendor-generic base MIB it has no notable dependency on other standard MIBs beyond the base SNMPv2-SMI framework. It is typically deployed on Intel-manufactured network devices, server management boards, or embedded network hardware that share a common Intel management agent stack, and looking up a specific INTEL-GEN-MIB OID such as sysConfChange or sysLogTable is usually the fastest way to confirm whether a given Intel management agent exposes the identity and log data described here.

Monitoring Examples

An admin would poll sysVendorName and sysProductName to confirm device identity and sysMibVersion to verify agent compatibility, then watch sysConfChange and sysConfChangeLastResponse to detect unexpected configuration changes and their outcome (success/failure). Polling sysLogTable would surface recent system log entries useful for spotting recurring errors or fault conditions, while sysSystemDate/sysTimeOfDay drift from the expected value can reveal a device with an unsynchronized clock or one that has recently reset. The sysReset object gives operators a remote way to trigger a device reboot as part of a maintenance or recovery procedure, and sysLocalMangementTimeout would be checked to confirm the management session idle-timeout is set as expected.
