Description: Intel common baseboard management controller (BMC) MIB providing SNMP objects for server hardware health via IPMI.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is INTEL-COMMON-BMC-MIB?

INTEL-COMMON-BMC-MIB is an Intel vendor MIB exposing SNMP access to a server's Baseboard Management Controller (BMC), which implements IPMI (Intelligent Platform Management Interface) for out-of-band hardware monitoring. It is built around IPMI's Platform Event Trap (PET) mechanism, translating IPMI sensor events into SNMP notifications about the physical health of the server chassis. This is fundamentally a hardware-status MIB: its module description example itself is a temperature sensor crossing an upper non-critical threshold, and the underlying IPMI/PET model covers temperature, voltage, fan speed, power supply state, and chassis intrusion sensors typical of BMC implementations. It is explicitly dependent on and structured around the IPMI standard and its PET event format, common across BMC implementations regardless of server vendor. It is deployed on Intel-based server motherboards/systems where out-of-band hardware health monitoring is needed independent of OS/software state. Engineers can download the INTEL-COMMON-BMC-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in INTEL-COMMON-BMC-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Intel server motherboard/BMC (IPMI-based server hardware)

Monitoring Examples

An operator would subscribe to the pet-events trap objects to receive notifications like a temperature sensor crossing its upper non-critical threshold, as described in the module itself, allowing intervention before a critical shutdown threshold is reached. Because only the top-level wired-for-management/pet/pet-events branches were available, specific sensor-reading object names cannot be cited, but the expected use is correlating PET traps against known IPMI sensor types (temperature, voltage, fan, power supply) to catch early-warning hardware degradation on the server chassis.

What Can Be Monitored

  • temperature threshold events
  • platform event trap (PET) notifications
  • sensor status via IPMI
