Description: Monitors fan status and speed on ADTRAN AOS devices for hardware environmental health management.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is ADTRAN-AOS-FAN-MIB?

ADTRAN-AOS-FAN-MIB is an ADTRAN vendor MIB for AdtranOS (AOS) devices that defines configuration and trap objects for monitoring the health of chassis cooling fans. It exposes hardware environmental data: the number of fans present, per-fan operational status, and trap enable/control settings for fan-failure notifications. Its central purpose is hardware health monitoring -- confirming each fan is spinning correctly and alerting via trap the moment a fan fails, since fan loss risks overheating and subsequent shutdown of the device. It follows ADTRAN's standard AOS MIB conformance pattern (Groups/Compliances) and does not appear to depend on external standard MIBs. It is deployed on AdtranOS-based routers, switches, and access devices in any environment where proactive cooling-fan health monitoring is needed to prevent thermal failures, typically after an ADTRAN-AOS-FAN-MIB download is loaded into the network management system's MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in ADTRAN-AOS-FAN-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • ADTRAN AOS-based router/switch/access device

Monitoring Examples

An administrator would read adGenAOSFanNumber to confirm how many fans the chassis expects, then poll adGenAOSFanInfo/adGenAOSFan per fan to check each one's operational status. Enabling adGenAOSFanTrapEnable and adGenAOSFanTrapControl ensures an adGenAOSFanTrap notification is sent immediately when a fan fails, which is critical since fan failure can quickly lead to over-temperature shutdown of the chassis. Tracking which specific fan number reported the fault helps a technician bring the correct replacement part to the site.

What Can Be Monitored

  • number of fans installed
  • per-fan operational status
  • fan failure trap enable/control
  • fan failure notifications
