Category: Device Management, Hardware and Environment, Vendor: Intel
Description: Intel diagnostics MIB providing SNMP objects for initiating and reporting hardware self-test and diagnostic results on Intel devices.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is INTEL-DIAG-MIB?
INTEL-DIAG-MIB is a vendor-specific MIB from Intel for retrieving hardware self-test and diagnostic results from Intel-branded networking devices, typically Ethernet switches. It exposes a diagnostic event log — a table of timestamped entries with severity level, an error/diagnostic code, the associated interface index, a textual description, and remediation advice — along with summary counters for total and error entries and a last-update timestamp. This is explicitly a hardware/software fault-monitoring module: it lets a management station pull structured diagnostic results (rather than raw traps) to determine whether a device or one of its interfaces has failed a self-test or logged an internal fault condition. It doesn't appear to build on a standard IETF diagnostics MIB, functioning instead as Intel's own proprietary diagnostic log format layered over standard interface indexing (ifIndex). It is typically deployed alongside standard interface and system MIBs on Intel switches, giving operators a consolidated view of self-diagnosed hardware issues without needing console/CLI access, thanks to INTEL-DIAG-MIB SNMP monitoring.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in INTEL-DIAG-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Intel-branded managed Ethernet switch
- Intel network device with onboard diagnostics
Monitoring Examples
An administrator would poll diagListNumberOfErrorEntries to quickly check whether any diagnostic failures have been logged, then walk diagListTable/diagListEntry to read diagListLevel, diagListCode, and diagListDescription for each flagged event. diagListIfindex ties a given diagnostic entry back to the specific interface it affects, helping isolate a failing port. diagListAdvice supplies vendor-suggested remediation text, and diagListLastUpdateTime shows how current the log is.
What Can Be Monitored
- diagnostic error entry count
- diagnostic event severity level
- diagnostic error code
- affected interface index
- diagnostic timestamp
- log last-update time
