Description: Marvell Computer Communications Unidirectional Link Detection (UDLD) MIB for detecting and disabling unidirectional Ethernet links.

What Is MARVELL-UDLD-MIB?
MARVELL-UDLD-MIB is a Marvell Computer Communications private MIB implementing Cisco's UniDirectional Link Detection (UDLD) protocol for detecting one-way Ethernet links before they cause Spanning Tree loops, registered under the RADLAN-MIB (rnd) enterprise subtree. Its rlUdldPortTable, indexed by rlUdldPortIfIndex, exposes per-port rlUdldPortAdminMode/rlUdldPortOperMode (normal, aggressive, disabled, default), rlUdldBidirectionalState (a textual convention covering shutdown, idle, detection, undetermined, and bidirectional), and rlUdldNumberOfDetectedNeighbors, while rlUdldNeighborTable — indexed by port, device ID, and port ID — tracks each detected neighbor's MAC address, name, message interval, remaining hold time, and rlUdldNeighborCurrentState (disabled, enabled, undefined, bidirectional). Two global scalars, rlUdldGlobalUDLDMode and rlUdldGlobalMessageTime, control fiber-port default behavior and probe interval switch-wide. Because rlUdldBidirectionalState directly reports whether a link has been confirmed as safely bidirectional, this MIB is highly actionable for catching miswired or one-way fiber links before they cause a network loop. It depends on InterfaceIndex from IF-MIB and MacAddress/TruthValue/RowStatus from SNMPv2-TC, and is deployed on Marvell-based (RADLAN-derived) managed Ethernet switches. Engineers debugging suspected one-way links commonly need the MARVELL-UDLD-MIB MIB Browser to interpret the bidirectional-state enumeration.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in MARVELL-UDLD-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Marvell Prestera/RADLAN-based switch silicon and software, used as the management stack in many OEM managed Ethernet switches
Monitoring Examples
An operator polls rlUdldBidirectionalState for a fiber port suspected of a wiring fault; a value of undetermined or shutdown persisting after the configured rlUdldGlobalMessageTime interval, with rlUdldNumberOfDetectedNeighbors remaining zero, would indicate the link is not bidirectionally verified and UDLD has likely disabled the port to prevent a loop.
What Can Be Monitored
- per-port UDLD admin/operational mode
- port bidirectional link state
- detected UDLD neighbor count and identity
- neighbor message/hold-time and current state
- global UDLD mode and probe message interval
