What Is IBMHPRROUTETEST-MIB?
IBMHPRROUTETEST-MIB is an IBM SNA/APPN-related MIB providing diagnostic route-testing capabilities for HPR (High Performance Routing), the transport layer used in IBM's Advanced Peer-to-Peer Networking (APPN) architecture. Rather than exposing steady-state performance counters, it defines trigger objects and a generic test table that let an operator initiate a path-verification test along an existing RTP (Rapid Transport Protocol) connection and retrieve the result. Its monitoring role is software/protocol-path diagnostics: a test result and sense code report whether a triggered route test succeeded or failed and why, helping confirm whether an HPR/RTP connection's underlying physical path is intact, useful for diagnosing SNA network connectivity issues rather than hardware sensor data. It is built directly on IBM's APPN/HPR architecture and RTP connection model, so it has no relevance outside SNA-based networks. It is deployed in enterprise SNA/APPN networks, typically alongside IBM mainframe or Communications Server nodes needing to verify HPR path health. Engineers can download the IBMHPRROUTETEST-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in IBMHPRROUTETEST-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- IBM 6611 Network Processor / Communications Server SNA-APPN (HPR) nodes
Monitoring Examples
An operator would set ibmHprRtGenConnTrigger or ibmHprRtGlobeConnTrigger to initiate a route test on an existing RTP connection, then read ibmHprRtGenResult and ibmHprRtGenSenseCode from ibmHprRtGenTable/ibmHprRtGenEntry to determine whether the path succeeded or failed; a non-zero sense code pinpoints a broken hop in the SNA/APPN path.
What Can Be Monitored
- HPR route test trigger/result
- route test sense code
- test type and ID
- class-of-service name used in test
- route selection control vector (RSCV)
