Description: Sun Microsystems MIB for hardware diagnostics providing system health status, fault isolation, and component-level diagnostic results.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is HWDIAG-MIB2?
HWDIAG-MIB2 is a Sun Microsystems MIB supporting the Hardware Diagnostic Suite agent, a tool for running and reporting hardware-level diagnostic tests on Sun servers and related computing equipment. It exposes objects describing diagnostic patterns/tests (via a pattern table with entries for pattern name, description, and row status), along with agent and product identification data, focused on fault isolation and component-level diagnostic outcomes rather than steady-state performance metrics. Its monitoring value is centrally about hardware health verification: confirming which diagnostic patterns/tests are configured and available, and using their results to isolate which specific hardware component (CPU, memory, I/O board, etc.) is faulty on a Sun system. As a Sun-specific diagnostic launcher MIB it depends on the underlying Sun entity/product identification framework (referenced via objects like "entdiag" and "prod") to associate diagnostic results with specific hardware components. Deployment context is Sun/Oracle SPARC or x86 servers where administrators or field engineers run hardware diagnostics to isolate faults during troubleshooting or before a repair action. Network engineers evaluating or troubleshooting this functionality can download the HWDIAG-MIB2 file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in HWDIAG-MIB2. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Sun Microsystems server
- Sun/Oracle SPARC or x86 hardware
Monitoring Examples
An administrator would query the hDpatternTable/patternEntry rows (patternName, patDesc, rowstatus) to see which diagnostic test patterns are defined and their activation status, then trigger a diagnostic run via startEDA and check the resulting entries to isolate which specific hardware component reported a fault, distinguishing a genuine hardware failure from a transient error.
What Can Be Monitored
- diagnostic pattern/test definitions
- diagnostic test row status
- hardware fault isolation results
- diagnostic agent status
