Category: Domain: Server Hardware, Hardware and Environment, Vendor: IBM

Description: IBM MIB for monitoring overall system health status including component fault states and environmental conditions on IBM servers.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is IBM-SYSTEM-HEALTH-MIB?

IBM-SYSTEM-HEALTH-MIB is an IBM vendor-private MIB, built on the CIM-derived IBMPSG_ComponentHealth class (per its REFERENCE clauses), that reports overall system health status on IBM servers by tracking the current fault/warning state of individual managed components. Its single ibmSystemComponentHealthTable, indexed by ibmSystemComponentHealthKeyIndex, exposes ibmSystemComponentHealthCurrentState and ibmSystemComponentHealthLastState (0=NORMAL, 1=WARNING, 2=CRITICAL) for each component, together with ibmSystemComponentHealthDateTime/LastUpdate timestamps, a human-readable ibmSystemComponentHealthDescription, an ibmSystemComponentHealthEventCategory (Communications, Device, Environmental, Security, and others), a suggested ibmSystemComponentHealthResolution, and a unique ibmSystemComponentHealthEventID for correlating events. Because it aggregates fault states from many underlying hardware and environmental sensors into one normalized health table, it is well suited to IBM-SYSTEM-HEALTH-MIB SNMP monitoring that gives an at-a-glance summary of server health without needing to poll each component-specific MIB separately. It depends on IBM-SYSTEM-MIB for its ibmSystemHealth registration point and shared data types (Uint16, Datetime, String, and others), and is deployed on IBM servers running the IBM Director/CIM-based systems-management agent; NOC teams typically add this table to their dashboards for fleet-wide component health rollups.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in IBM-SYSTEM-HEALTH-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • IBM System x / IBM servers (CIM-based hardware management, IBM Director-managed platforms)

Monitoring Examples

An operator polls ibmSystemComponentHealthTable and filters for ibmSystemComponentHealthCurrentState equal to CRITICAL(2); a component whose CurrentState transitions from NORMAL(0) to CRITICAL(2) with ibmSystemComponentHealthEventCategory showing Environmental would indicate a thermal or power-related fault requiring immediate physical inspection of that server.

What Can Be Monitored

  • per-component current health state (NORMAL/WARNING/CRITICAL)
  • previous health state for change detection
  • last state-change timestamp
  • event category (Communications, Device, Environmental, Security, etc.)
  • suggested resolution text per event
  • unique event ID per health event

RFC description

SNMP MIB for monitoring IBM server system health via Integrated Management Module (IMM) or System Director agent, tracking fan rotation, CPU temperature, power supply status, voltage, humidity, and hardware component health.

Start monitoring IBM server managed by IBM Director (CIM-based component health rollup) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
