Category: ATM, Vendor: IBM

Description: IBM MIB for Emulated LAN (ELAN) management providing ATM LAN emulation service configuration and statistics.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is IBM-ELAN-MIB?

IBM-ELAN-MIB is an IBM MIB for managing Emulated LAN (ELAN) services on ATM LAN Emulation networks, covering LES (LAN Emulation Server) and LECS (LAN Emulation Configuration Server) configuration. It exposes tables describing backup LES assignments per ELAN, LECS configuration parameters (burned-in versus configured ESI/selector values), and bandwidth/traffic-shaping parameters for ATM interfaces. Its monitoring value is largely around service configuration and availability rather than physical sensors: an admin can confirm whether a backup LES failover path is properly configured, and check the underlying ATM line speed to verify the interface is running at its expected rate. It builds on the ATM Forum's LAN Emulation (LANE) specifications and standard ATM interface conventions for physical-layer parameters. It was typically deployed in legacy enterprise ATM backbone networks bridging Ethernet LANs over ATM infrastructure, a technology largely superseded by native Ethernet/IP. Network engineers evaluating or troubleshooting this functionality can download the IBM-ELAN-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in IBM-ELAN-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • IBM ATM LAN Emulation switch/server (LES/LECS)

Monitoring Examples

Polling ibmElanLesTable/ibmElanLesEntry with ibmBackupLesAtmAddrValid/ibmBackupLesAtmAddr confirms whether a backup LES is properly configured for a given ELAN, while ibmLecsConfTable entries (lecsConfiguredEsi, lecsConfiguredSelector) verify LECS addressing; an unexpected atmDevLineSpeed value would reveal an ATM interface not running at its provisioned rate.

What Can Be Monitored

  • backup LES configuration validity
  • LECS ESI/selector configuration
  • ATM line speed
  • reserved bandwidth configuration
  • ELAN LES address
