Category: ATM, Vendor: Fore Systems (ATM)

Description: Fore Systems PNNI (Private Network-to-Network Interface) MIB providing routing and topology management for ForeThought PNNI ATM network control.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is Fore-PNNI-MIB?

Fore-PNNI-MIB implements FORE Systems' vendor extensions to the standard PNNI (Private Network-to-Network Interface) MIB, used for ATM routing and topology management on ForeThought-based ATM switches. It exposes PNNI traffic/QoS profile configuration objects covering service category, minimum forward/reverse cell rates, CLP handling, cell loss ratio, and optimum cell transfer delay, used when establishing PNNI-signaled connections across an ATM network. Administrators use these objects mainly to verify traffic contract and QoS profile configuration, though the underlying PNNI and ATM routing groups also surface topology and reachability status relevant to overall network health. It depends heavily on the ATM Forum's standard PNNI MIB and ATM routing conventions, extending rather than replacing them. It is deployed in FORE/Marconi ATM switches participating in PNNI-routed carrier or enterprise ATM backbones, and network engineers can perform a Fore-PNNI-MIB download to load the module directly into their MIB browser for reference.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in Fore-PNNI-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Fore Systems/Marconi ForeThought ATM switch

Monitoring Examples

An admin reviewing pnniPcProfileTable/pnniPcProfileEntry can inspect pnniPcProfileServiceCategory, pnniPcProfileMinFwdCR, and pnniPcProfileMinRevCR to confirm a traffic profile matches the intended QoS class for a PNNI connection. Checking pnniPcProfileOptCTD and the CLR objects (pnniPcProfileFwdCLR/RevCLR) helps validate whether configured cell loss and delay targets are consistent with what the network can deliver, flagging misconfigured profiles that could cause call setup failures.

What Can Be Monitored

  • PNNI traffic profile service category
  • minimum forward/reverse cell rate
  • cell loss ratio settings
  • optimum cell transfer delay
  • CLP handling mode
