Category: Domain: Environmental Monitoring, Hardware and Environment, Vendor: HWg
Description: HW group MIB for the STE (Sensor to Ethernet) device providing temperature and humidity monitoring via SNMP.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is HWG-STE-MIB?
HWG-STE-MIB is a vendor MIB from HW group for its STE (Sensor to Ethernet) appliance, a small IP-connected sensor gateway. It exposes a generic sensor table covering environmental readings, most commonly temperature and humidity, along with metadata such as sensor name, unit, and serial number. It is used specifically to monitor environmental hardware conditions in server rooms, network closets, or industrial cabinets, tracking values such as the current reading and alarm/threshold state so operators can be alerted to overheating or humidity excursions. It is a self-contained private MIB with no significant dependency on other standard MIBs beyond basic SNMP conventions. Typical deployment is remote environmental monitoring of data center racks or facility rooms via a lightweight HW group STE appliance polled by an NMS. Engineers can download the HWG-STE-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in HWG-STE-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- HW group STE (Sensor to Ethernet) environmental monitor
Monitoring Examples
An admin would poll sensTable/sensEntry rows keyed by sensIndex, reading sensValue and sensUnit (e.g., degrees Celsius) alongside sensName to identify which physical probe is reporting; a rising sensValue combined with sensState moving into an alarm condition would reveal an overheating server room before hardware damage occurs.
What Can Be Monitored
- temperature reading
- humidity reading
- sensor alarm state
- sensor name/location
- sensor serial number
