Description: Manages Port Extender (PEX) cascaded switch modules and uplink port configuration on HP/Comware switches.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is HPN-ICF-PEX-MIB?

HPN-ICF-PEX-MIB is an HP/H3C (Comware ICF) enterprise MIB used to manage Port Extender (PEX) modules — cascaded switch units that extend the port capacity of a parent switch over an uplink. It exposes configuration and identity data about PEX units and ports, including the hpnicfPexTable of PEX devices and the hpnicfPexPortTable mapping physical ports to logical PEX port and associate IDs, along with per-port descriptions and status. For hardware status monitoring it is directly relevant: hpnicfPexPortStatus together with hpnicfPexPortEntPhysicalIndex lets an administrator confirm whether a given cascaded PEX unit's port is operationally up, and hpnicfPexTraps provide fault notifications when PEX modules or uplinks change state. It complements the standard ENTITY-MIB, since hpnicfPexPortEntPhysicalIndex ties PEX ports back to the physical entity inventory. It is deployed on HP/HPE Comware-based switches (and H3C-derived platforms) supporting port-extender cascading topologies in data center or campus access layers. Engineers can download the HPN-ICF-PEX-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in HPN-ICF-PEX-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • HP/HPE Comware switch with Port Extender (PEX) modules
  • H3C-derived switch

Monitoring Examples

An operator would poll hpnicfPexTable to enumerate attached PEX units and hpnicfPexPortTable/hpnicfPexPortEntry to check hpnicfPexPortStatus for each port, cross-referencing hpnicfPexPortEntPhysicalIndex against the entity MIB for physical location. If a PEX port's status shows down while hpnicfPexPortAssociateId indicates it should be mapped and active, that flags a cascade-link failure, and hpnicfPexTraps would fire a notification for the same event.

What Can Be Monitored

  • PEX unit inventory
  • PEX port operational status
  • PEX port-to-physical-entity mapping
  • PEX port association ID
  • PEX port description/configuration
