Category: MPLS and Traffic Engineering, Pseudowire, VPN and Security, Vendor: H3C/HH3C

Description: Manages PWE3 (Pseudowire Emulation Edge-to-Edge) circuit configuration and status on H3C provider-edge routers.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is HH3C-L2VPN-PWE3-MIB?

HH3C-L2VPN-PWE3-MIB is an H3C MIB that manages Pseudowire Emulation Edge-to-Edge (PWE3) circuits, which carry Layer 2 traffic such as Ethernet or Frame Relay over an MPLS or IP core between provider-edge routers. It exposes per-pseudowire configuration and state, including VC type, peer address, MTU, and the inbound/outbound MPLS labels used to switch traffic. As a monitoring tool it primarily reports the operational health and configuration consistency of each pseudowire circuit, verifying labels are assigned, MTU matches, and the circuit is correctly bound to a local interface, plus trap-based fault notification when a pseudowire opens or fails. It depends conceptually on MPLS label-switching mechanisms and complements standard MPLS and interface (IF-MIB) MIBs, since each pseudowire maps to a local ifIndex. It is typically deployed on H3C provider-edge (PE) routers offering Layer 2 VPN/pseudowire services to enterprise customers, and network engineers typically complete an HH3C-L2VPN-PWE3-MIB download from H3C's support portal before adding pseudowire monitoring to their NMS.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in HH3C-L2VPN-PWE3-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • H3C provider-edge router
  • H3C MPLS-capable router

Monitoring Examples

An admin would poll hh3cPwVcTable, keyed by hh3cPwVcIndex, to inspect hh3cPwVcPeerAddr, hh3cPwVcInboundLabel, and hh3cPwVcOutboundLabel for a given pseudowire, confirming the labels are non-zero and that hh3cPwVcIfIndex maps to the expected access interface. A pseudowire stuck without valid inbound/outbound labels, or an MTU mismatch reported via hh3cPwVcMtu, would indicate a signaling or provisioning failure preventing the L2VPN circuit from passing traffic. The hh3cPwVcTrapOpen notification alerts operators in real time when a pseudowire's state changes.

What Can Be Monitored

  • pseudowire peer address
  • inbound/outbound MPLS labels
  • pseudowire VC type and MTU
  • pseudowire interface binding
  • pseudowire up/down notifications
