Description: Manages switch stacking topology, member priority, and IRF (Intelligent Resilient Framework) on HP/Comware.

What Is HPN-ICF-STACK-MIB?

HPN-ICF-STACK-MIB is an HP Networking (Comware-based) MIB for managing Stack Topology Management (STM) on IRF (Intelligent Resilient Framework)-capable switches, which let multiple physical switches operate as one logical stacked device. It belongs to HP's ICF (Intelligent Configuration Framework) MIB family used across HP Comware switching products. Its data covers stack configuration and topology software state: hpnicfStackMemberNum and hpnicfStackTopology report how many members are in the stack and its ring/chain topology, while the hpnicfStackDeviceConfigTable exposes each member's hpnicfStackMemberID and hpnicfStackPriority, which determines master-election behavior — critical for diagnosing an unexpected stack master failover. It also includes hpnicfStackTrap objects for notifying on stack topology changes, an operationally important software/configuration-status event. It is deployed on HP Comware IRF-capable switches (including HP/H3C/HPE Networking products) in stacked switch deployments where administrators need visibility into which unit is master and whether the stack topology is intact. Engineers can download the HPN-ICF-STACK-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in HPN-ICF-STACK-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • HP/H3C Comware switches (stacking)

Monitoring Examples

An administrator would poll hpnicfStackMemberNum and hpnicfStackTopology to confirm all expected stack members are present and the ring/chain topology is intact, then walk the hpnicfStackDeviceConfigTable to check each hpnicfStackMemberID against its hpnicfStackPriority to understand which unit would become master on failover. A trap from hpnicfStackTrap indicating a topology change, combined with a drop in hpnicfStackMemberNum, would signal that a stack member has physically disconnected or failed.

What Can Be Monitored

  • stack member count
  • stack topology (ring/chain)
  • per-member stack priority
  • member ID assignment
  • stack topology-change traps
