What Is HPN-ICF-LswVLAN-MIB?

HPN-ICF-LswVLAN-MIB is a Hewlett-Packard Networking proprietary MIB used on HP Comware-based Layer 2/3 switches (the HP Intelligent Configuration Framework family) to manage VLAN creation, port membership, and VLAN interface IP parameters. It exposes configuration data describing which VLANs exist on the switch, which physical/logical ports belong to each VLAN, and the IP addressing assigned to VLAN interfaces. This MIB is used mainly for monitoring the software-configured network segmentation state of the switch, letting an administrator confirm that VLAN membership and interface IP configuration match intended network design, which helps catch misconfigurations that cause connectivity or broadcast-domain problems. As an HP/Comware extension it commonly works alongside standard VLAN and interface MIBs such as Q-BRIDGE-MIB and IF-MIB for a complete picture of the switch. It is typically deployed in enterprise campus or data center networks built on HP/H3C Comware switches. Monitoring Examples

No sample_objects were supplied for this MIB, so specific table names cannot be cited directly; typically such a MIB exposes a VLAN table (mapping VLAN IDs to names and status) and a port-membership table linking ports to VLANs, plus VLAN-interface IP address objects. An administrator would poll the VLAN table to verify a given VLAN ID is active and correctly bound to its expected ports, and an unexpected port missing from a VLAN's member list would explain a device losing connectivity to that segment. This is a general characterization since sample_objects was empty.

How to Use in IPNetwork Monitor

Example using hpnicfVLANMibSwitchGMRPRXPkt OID:

Select an HP Comware switch (VLAN configuration) as the target host to create a monitor — the SNMP service should be up and running on it. Click New Monitor, then check SNMP Custom on the Favorites tab, click Next, and confirm the host. On the next page, click Select... to open the built-in SNMP MIB Browser and type hpnicfVLANMibSwitchGMRPRXPkt into the Find box to locate it in the OID tree, selecting the specific row/instance you want to monitor since this is a table column, then select it and click OK. It reports the number of GMRP frames received. On the monitor's Main parameters page you can set the target's SNMP port (default 161), credentials, polling interval, and other settings — see the SNMP Monitor help for details. On the State conditions and Alerting tabs, configure when the monitor should change state and trigger an alert; since this is a Counter32-type OID, Value bounds is the most useful condition here — trigger an alert if the counter increases sharply between polls relative to its normal baseline, since an unexpected spike often reflects a real change in traffic or activity. Click Finish to create the monitor; you can adjust any parameter later.
