Description: HP Networking ICF SNMP MIB for Device Link Detection Protocol (DLDP) detecting one-way link failures on HP networking devices.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is HPN-ICF-DLDP-MIB?

HPN-ICF-DLDP-MIB is a vendor-specific SNMP module from HP Networking's Comware/ICF platform, implementing management for the Device Link Detection Protocol (DLDP), a mechanism used to detect unidirectional (one-way) fiber or copper link failures that standard link-state monitoring cannot catch. It exposes configuration data such as global enable state, detection work mode, probe interval, and authentication settings, alongside per-port operational status showing whether a link is bidirectional, unidirectional, or in an indeterminate state. In terms of hardware/software health monitoring, this MIB is specifically valuable for catching a class of physical-layer fault that leaves a link's carrier signal up while traffic in one direction is silently dropped, which can otherwise cause spanning-tree loops or blackholed traffic; polling port state here effectively monitors link integrity health that interface counters alone would miss. It complements, rather than replaces, standard IF-MIB and BRIDGE-MIB interface/link state monitoring. It is deployed on HP/H3C Comware switches and routers using fiber uplinks or aggregation links where undetected one-way failures pose a risk to Layer 2 topology stability. Engineers can download the HPN-ICF-DLDP-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in HPN-ICF-DLDP-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • HP/H3C Comware switch
  • HP/H3C Comware router

Monitoring Examples

An administrator would poll hpnicfDLDPPortStateTable (via hpnicfDLDPPortStateEntry/hpnicfDLDPPortState) to check whether each monitored port reports a healthy bidirectional link versus a unidirectional or down state, and cross-reference hpnicfDLDPSystemEnable and hpnicfDLDPInterval to confirm the protocol is active and how frequently it probes. A port flipping to a unidirectional state combined with hpnicfDLDPUnidirectionalShutdown being enabled indicates DLDP has already administratively shut the port down to prevent a loop. The hpnicfDLDPPortDLDPTable provides additional per-port DLDP configuration for correlating which ports have detection enabled.

What Can Be Monitored

  • DLDP global enable state
  • per-port link state (bidirectional/unidirectional)
  • detection interval
  • authentication mode
  • unidirectional-shutdown action
  • DLDP work mode
