Description: HP ServerNet (Foundry-heritage) SNMP MIB for BGP4 routing protocol configuration and neighbor management on HP SN routers.

What Is HP-SN-BGP4-GROUP-MIB?

HP-SN-BGP4-GROUP-MIB is an SNMP MIB inherited from HP's ServerNet networking line (originally Foundry Networks technology acquired by HP), used to configure BGP4 (Border Gateway Protocol version 4) routing policy on HP SN routers and switches. It exposes configuration objects for BGP address filters and route aggregation, controlling which routes are permitted, denied, or aggregated in the router's BGP routing table. As a routing-policy configuration MIB, its relevance to device status monitoring is mainly about confirming the software/protocol configuration is correctly applied, such as verifying an address filter's rowStatus is active, rather than reporting hardware sensor data. It complements the standard BGP4-MIB (RFC 4273), which would carry the actual peer/session operational state, while this module adds HP/Foundry-specific filtering and aggregation policy objects. It is typically deployed on HP SN core/edge routers running BGP in service-provider or large enterprise WAN environments. Engineers can download the HP-SN-BGP4-GROUP-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in HP-SN-BGP4-GROUP-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • HP ProCurve Routing Switch 9304m/9308m/9315m (OEM'd Foundry Networks BigIron core routing switches)

Monitoring Examples

The module exposes snBgp4AddrFilterTable/Entry keyed by snBgp4AddrFilterIndex, holding snBgp4AddrFilterAction, snBgp4AddrFilterSourceIp/Mask, and snBgp4AddrFilterDestIp/Mask, alongside snBgp4AggregateAddrTable/Entry holding snBgp4AggregateAddrIp for route aggregation policy. An administrator would poll snBgp4AddrFilterRowStatus across configured filters to confirm a recently added filter is active and applying as expected, and check the aggregate address table to verify route summarization matches the intended CIDR block. Because this MIB is policy-configuration focused, actual BGP session/peer health would be monitored via the standard BGP4-MIB rather than this module.

What Can Be Monitored

  • BGP address filter configuration and status
  • filter action (permit/deny) per rule
  • route aggregation address configuration
