Description: HP ICF SNMP MIB for Multicast Listener Discovery (MLD) snooping configuration and statistics on HP ProCurve switches.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is HP-ICF-MLD-MIB?

HP-ICF-MLD-MIB is a vendor-specific HP (ProCurve/Aruba Networking) MIB that extends the standard MLD MIB (RFC 3019) with additional objects for managing IPv6 Multicast Listener Discovery snooping and querier behavior on HP switches. It augments the standard mldInterfaceEntry with per-interface querier state (hpicfMldIfEntryState) and a large set of protocol counters (report/query/leave rx/tx, malformed and bad-checksum packet counts), and adds a group-membership cache (hpicfMldCacheTable, with hpicfMldCacheUpTime, hpicfMldCacheExpiryTime, and hpicfJoinedPorts) alongside per-port mode control in hpicfMldPortConfigTable (forced-leave and fast-leave features). Monitoring it reveals whether MLD snooping/querier election is working correctly and whether ports are tracking multicast group joins as expected, which matters for diagnosing IPv6 multicast flooding or lost video/streaming traffic on switched networks. It depends on the standard IPV6-MLD-MIB for its base interface table and on Q-BRIDGE-MIB for port-list representations, and administrators can download the HP-ICF-MLD-MIB file to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in HP-ICF-MLD-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • HP ProCurve / Aruba Networking switches (IPv6 multicast/MLD snooping capable)

Monitoring Examples

An operator polls hpicfMldCacheTable entries (hpicfMldCacheUpTime, hpicfMldCacheExpiryTime, hpicfJoinedPorts) alongside hpicfMldIfEntryStatMldV1ReportRx/V2ReportRx counters for a VLAN; a cache entry whose expiry timer is counting down without a corresponding report increment flags a host that stopped renewing membership, meaning the group may soon be pruned and multicast traffic cut off.

What Can Be Monitored

  • MLD interface querier/non-querier state
  • MLD protocol packet counters (queries, reports, leaves, malformed packets)
  • multicast group cache entries and expiry timers
  • per-port MLD mode and fast/forced-leave configuration
  • filtered vs. standard group join counts

How to Use in IPNetwork Monitor

Example using hpicfMldIfEntryStatGeneralQueryRx OID:

Select an HP ProCurve/Aruba switch (IPv6 MLD snooping/querier) as the target host to create a monitor — the SNMP service should be up and running on it. Click New Monitor, then check SNMP Custom on the Favorites tab, click Next, and confirm the host. On the next page, click Select... to open the built-in SNMP MIB Browser and type hpicfMldIfEntryStatGeneralQueryRx into the Find box to locate it in the OID tree, selecting the specific row/instance you want to monitor since this is a table column, then select it and click OK. The number of times an Mld General Service Query has been received on this interface. On the monitor's Main parameters page you can set the target's SNMP port (default 161), credentials, polling interval, and other settings — see the SNMP Monitor help for details. On the State conditions and Alerting tabs, configure when the monitor should change state and trigger an alert; since this is a Counter32-type OID, Value bounds is the most useful condition here — trigger an alert if the counter increases sharply between polls relative to its normal baseline, since an unexpected spike often reflects a real change in traffic or activity. Click Finish to create the monitor; you can adjust any parameter later.
