Description: Provides a version 2 set of load balancing management objects with enhanced service group features on HP/Comware devices.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is HPN-ICF-LBV2-MIB?

HPN-ICF-LBV2-MIB is an HP (Comware/ICF platform) enterprise MIB providing the second-generation load balancing feature set, covering server load balancing actions and virtual service groups. It exposes tables defining load balancing actions with default, backup, and in-use server farms, as well as virtual server (VS) definitions including connection limits. This MIB supports monitoring the software-level health of the load balancing subsystem, such as which server farm is currently in use for a given action (revealing a failover from the default farm to a backup) and whether a virtual server is approaching its configured connection limit. It builds on HP's general ICF (Intelligent Configuration Framework) MIB conventions shared across other hpnicf modules. It is deployed on HP/H3C Comware switches and routers performing local server load balancing for enterprise application delivery, typically after an HPN-ICF-LBV2-MIB download to load the module into a MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in HPN-ICF-LBV2-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • HP Comware switch/router
  • H3C load balancing device

Monitoring Examples

An administrator would poll hpnicfLBv2ActionTable and compare hpnicfLBv2ActionInUseSF against hpnicfLBv2ActionDefaultSF and hpnicfLBv2ActionBackupSF to detect that a load balancing action has failed over to its backup server farm, indicating a problem with the primary farm. They would also check hpnicfLBv2VSConnectionsLimit on hpnicfLBv2VSTable entries against actual connection counts to catch a virtual server nearing capacity, and hpnicfLBv2TrapEnable to confirm failover traps are enabled.

What Can Be Monitored

  • active vs default server farm
  • backup server farm failover
  • virtual server connection limit
  • load balancing action status
  • LB trap notifications

How to Use in IPNetwork Monitor

Example using hpnicfLBv2VSStatTotalConnections OID:

Select an HP Comware switch/router or H3C load-balancing device (server load balancing v2) as the target host to create a monitor — the SNMP service should be up and running on it. Click New Monitor, then check SNMP Custom on the Favorites tab, click Next, and confirm the host. On the next page, click Select... to open the built-in SNMP MIB Browser and type hpnicfLBv2VSStatTotalConnections into the Find box to locate it in the OID tree, selecting the specific row/instance you want to monitor since this is a table column, then select it and click OK. It reports the total number of connections that the virtual server received. On the monitor's Main parameters page you can set the target's SNMP port (default 161), credentials, polling interval, and other settings — see the SNMP Monitor help for details. On the State conditions and Alerting tabs, configure when the monitor should change state and trigger an alert; since this is a Counter64-type OID, Value bounds is the most useful condition here — trigger an alert if the counter increases sharply between polls relative to its normal baseline, since an unexpected spike often reflects a real change in traffic or activity. Click Finish to create the monitor; you can adjust any parameter later.
