Description: HP SNMP MIB for monitoring and managing power consumption and state of physical entities in HP networking hardware.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is HP-ENTITY-POWER-MIB?
HP-ENTITY-POWER-MIB is an HP proprietary MIB that extends the standard Entity MIB with power management for physical entities such as modules and power supplies in HP networking hardware. It is expected to expose objects to read and set the power admin status of individual physical entities and to report power usage/consumption statistics per entity. This is directly a hardware health and power-monitoring MIB, used to confirm whether a given power supply, module, or slot is powered on, in a fault condition, or drawing an unusual amount of power. It extends the standard ENTITY-MIB's physical-entity indexing (entPhysicalIndex) to identify which component each power object applies to. It is deployed on HP networking chassis and switches with redundant power supplies or PoE that require per-entity power control and reporting. Engineers can download the HP-ENTITY-POWER-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in HP-ENTITY-POWER-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- HP networking switch/chassis with redundant or PoE power supplies
Monitoring Examples
No specific object or table names were captured in the sampled data for this module, so a concrete OID-level example cannot be given; based on its stated purpose, an administrator would poll a power supply's per-entPhysicalIndex power status to detect an unexpected power-off or fault condition, or watch power usage statistics to catch an entity drawing abnormally high current before a supply becomes overloaded.
What Can Be Monitored
- per-entity power status
- power admin/operational state
- power usage/consumption statistics
- power supply fault condition
