Description: General DataComm modem MIB for dial-up and leased-line modem configuration and connection status.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is GDCMDM-MIB?

GDCMDM-MIB is a vendor-specific MIB from General DataComm for its dial-up and leased-line modem product line. It exposes network-side configuration (line type, transmit level, handshake mode) and DTE-side configuration (interface speed) for each modem port, plus command/response status objects. It supports monitoring of modem hardware/software configuration state and connection handshake behavior, such as confirming mdmSNHandshakeMode and mdmCPMResp reflect a successful negotiation rather than a stuck or failed link. It is a self-contained proprietary MIB with no notable external dependencies beyond standard SNMP conventions under the gdc enterprise branch. It would typically be deployed in legacy point-to-point or dial backup telecom environments where GDC modems provide serial WAN connectivity. Engineers can download the GDCMDM-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in GDCMDM-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • General DataComm dial-up/leased-line modem

Monitoring Examples

An administrator would walk mdmNetworkConfigTable/mdmNetworkEntry (indexed by mdmNetworkIndex) to check mdmNetworkType, mdmSNTxType, and mdmSNTxLevel, verifying the modem's line-side transmit settings match the circuit's provisioned parameters. Checking mdmSNHandshakeMode alongside mdmCPMResp reveals whether the modem completed its handshake or is reporting a negotiation failure. On the DTE side, mdmDTEConfigTable's mdmDTESpeed (keyed by mdmDTEIndex) confirms the serial interface speed configured toward the attached router or terminal equipment.

What Can Be Monitored

  • network-side line type and transmit level
  • handshake mode and negotiation response
  • DTE interface speed
  • per-port configuration index
