Description: Eastern Research Inc. DNX Automatic Protection Switching MIB for managing APS configuration and switchover on DNX systems.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is ERI-DNX-APS-MIB?

ERI-DNX-APS-MIB is an Eastern Research Inc. (ERI) proprietary MIB for managing Automatic Protection Switching (APS) on DNX digital cross-connect systems, controlling and monitoring redundant circuit switchover. It exposes an APS configuration table (card type, protection thresholds for signal fail/signal degrade, RDI-SF criteria, command status) keyed by device address and resource, plus a corresponding status table. Its monitoring purpose is fault/failover status: tracking whether a protected circuit has switched to its backup path due to signal failure or degradation, which is critical for telecom transport reliability. No dependency on another standard MIB is stated; it's a vendor-specific extension of ERI's DNX chassis management. It is deployed on ERI DNX digital cross-connect/transport equipment in telecom carrier networks requiring automatic protection switching for T1/T3 or similar circuits, and engineers can get the ERI-DNX-APS-MIB download to load into their MIB browser for monitoring.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in ERI-DNX-APS-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Eastern Research Inc. DNX digital cross-connect systems

Monitoring Examples

An operator would check apsStatusTable/apsStatusEntry for a given apsStatusAddr to see whether a circuit has switched to its protection path, and cross-reference apsConfigTable's apsCfgSfThreshold and apsCfgSdThreshold to understand what signal-quality threshold triggered the switchover. apsCfgCmdStatus reveals whether a manual APS command (like a forced switch) is pending or completed. Frequent switchovers on the same apsCfgResource would indicate a degrading physical circuit needing maintenance.

What Can Be Monitored

  • APS switchover/protection status per circuit
  • signal fail threshold
  • signal degrade threshold
  • RDI-SF criteria
  • APS command status
