Category: DSL and Broadband, Standard: IETF

Description: IETF MIB for Ethernet-based G.Bond bonded DSL access, managing bonding group configuration and link statistics.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is GBOND-ETH-MIB?

GBOND-ETH-MIB is a vendor-neutral IETF-style MIB defined per ITU-T G.998.2 for managing Ethernet-based multi-pair bonded xDSL interfaces (G.Bond/Ethernet), where multiple DSL pairs are combined to form a single higher-bandwidth logical link. It exposes configuration and status data for bonding groups and their member DSL links, describing how individual xDSL pairs are aggregated at the Ethernet layer. Its monitoring value is on link/hardware status: confirming that all bonded pairs in a group remain active and synchronized, since the loss or degradation of one member pair reduces the aggregate bandwidth of the bonded Ethernet link and can indicate a line fault on a specific copper pair. It explicitly must be used together with the base GBOND-MIB module common to all G.Bond technologies, and it references IEEE 802.3 and ITU-T G.998.2 standards, making it clearly standards-dependent. It is deployed in telecom access networks by carriers offering bonded-DSL broadband service to boost bandwidth beyond a single copper pair's capacity, with the GBOND-ETH-MIB reference typically consulted alongside the base GBOND-MIB module and the ITU-T G.998.2 standard.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in GBOND-ETH-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB (ITU-T G.998.2), not tied to a specific manufacturer
  • bonded xDSL access equipment (DSLAM/CPE)

Monitoring Examples

No sample objects were provided for this MIB, but given its stated scope, an operator would poll bonding-group and per-pair status tables (defined per G.998.2 conventions) to verify each member DSL pair within a bonding group is up and contributing to the aggregate link. A member pair reporting a down or degraded state would explain a drop in the customer's available bonded bandwidth even though the overall Ethernet bonded interface remains up. This is inferred from the module's stated purpose since no object names were supplied.

What Can Be Monitored

  • bonding group status
  • member DSL pair link status
  • aggregate bonded bandwidth
  • pair synchronization state
