Description: Fore Systems interface creation MIB providing objects for dynamically creating and managing ATM virtual interfaces on ForeRunner switch ports.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is Fore-Ifcreate-MIB?
Fore-Ifcreate-MIB is a vendor-specific MIB from Fore Systems, covering the ForeRunner family of ATM and Frame Relay switches. It exposes configuration and control objects used to dynamically create logical interfaces, specifically an ifCreateTable for provisioning FR/ATM and FUNI services and an ifConversionTable that maps a service identifier to its assigned interface index. Rather than hardware sensor data, this MIB is used to monitor the software-side provisioning state of the switch, letting an operator verify whether a requested virtual interface or service has actually been instantiated and which ifIndex it was assigned, catching failed or inconsistent interface creation. It depends closely on the standard IF-MIB (RFC 2863) ifTable/ifIndex model, since every entry it creates must correspond to a valid interface index in that standard table. It is typically deployed on carrier or enterprise ATM/Frame Relay edge switches where circuits and services are provisioned dynamically rather than fixed at boot. Engineers can download the Fore-Ifcreate-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in Fore-Ifcreate-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Fore Systems ForeRunner ATM/Frame Relay switch
Monitoring Examples
An operator provisioning a new FR/ATM service on a ForeRunner switch would query the ifCreateTable to confirm the service was created and check the assigned interface index, then cross-reference the ifConversionTable to verify the service-ID-to-ifIndex mapping is correct. A missing row in ifCreateTable after a provisioning request signals a failed interface creation, while a stale or duplicate mapping in ifConversionTable can reveal ifIndex reuse problems after a service is torn down and re-provisioned.
What Can Be Monitored
- dynamically created interface entries
- assigned ifIndex per service
- service ID to ifIndex mapping
- FR/ATM and FUNI service provisioning status
