Description: Monitors UDP socket usage statistics and relay/helper address configuration on Cisco Small Business switches.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is CISCOSB-UDP?
This Cisco Small Business proprietary MIB augments standard UDP management with switch-specific extensions for UDP relay/forwarding (e.g., DHCP/BOOTP-style helper addresses) and a table of active UDP sessions. It exposes configuration data (relay entries mapping a source interface and destination port to a relay destination IP) as well as operational session-table data showing local address/port bindings currently in use by the device's UDP stack. As a networking-protocol MIB it is less about hardware health and more about verifying that UDP-based services such as DHCP relay are correctly configured and functioning, which indirectly reflects software/service status on the switch. It complements the standard IETF UDP-MIB, since UDP session and socket concepts trace back to that standard. It is used on Cisco Small Business switches in networks relying on UDP broadcast relay/helper functionality across VLANs or subnets. Engineers can download the CISCOSB-UDP file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CISCOSB-UDP. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Cisco Small Business managed switch
Monitoring Examples
An admin checks rsUdpRelayTable for an rsUdpRelayEntry with rsUdpRelayDstPort set to 67 (DHCP) and confirms rsUdpRelayDstIpAddr points to the correct DHCP server, with rsUdpRelayStatus showing the entry as active; a misconfigured or inactive entry here would explain clients on a relayed VLAN failing to get DHCP leases. Separately, rlUdpSessionTable lets the admin enumerate current UDP sockets by rlUdpSessionLocalAddrType/rlUdpSessionLocalAddr, useful for confirming a management service is actually listening.
What Can Be Monitored
- UDP relay/helper entry status
- relay destination IP and port
- active UDP session local address/port
- relay configuration source interface
