Description: Fore Systems FUNI (Frame-based UNI) MIB providing configuration and statistics for the Frame-based ATM UNI interface on ForeRunner switches.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is Fore-Funi-MIB?

Fore-Funi-MIB is a vendor-specific SNMP module from Fore Systems (later Marconi) for the Frame-based ATM User-Network Interface (FUNI) supported on ForeRunner ATM switches. It exposes configuration and status data for FUNI connections, including administrative and operational state of each frame-based ATM link and profile settings governing early/partial packet discard (EPD/PPD) congestion behavior. Network operators use it to monitor hardware/software status of FUNI interfaces, most importantly whether a configured connection is administratively enabled and operationally up, a frontline indicator of link or interface fault. Like most Fore Systems enterprise MIBs it is typically layered alongside standard IF-MIB and the vendor's core ATM MIBs rather than used standalone. It would be deployed in legacy ATM WAN/backbone environments where ForeRunner switches provide frame-relay-to-ATM interworking at a customer or carrier edge. Engineers can download the Fore-Funi-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in Fore-Funi-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Fore Systems ForeRunner ATM switch
  • ATM/Frame Relay interworking device

Monitoring Examples

An administrator would poll funiConnAdminStatus against funiConnOperStatus for each FUNI connection to detect a mismatch indicating the link is enabled but not passing traffic, a classic sign of physical or provisioning failure. funiConnProfileEpdPpdIndex ties a connection to a specific early/partial packet discard profile, so cross-referencing it during congestion events helps confirm whether the correct discard policy is applied. This is a narrow, connection-level table rather than a full traffic-statistics MIB.

What Can Be Monitored

  • FUNI connection admin status
  • FUNI connection operational status
  • EPD/PPD profile assignment
  • frame-based ATM link state
