Description: Manages virtual ATM interfaces and subinterface parameters on Cisco ATM devices.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is CISCO-ATM-VIRTUAL-IF-MIB?
CISCO-ATM-VIRTUAL-IF-MIB is a Cisco vendor-specific MIB (under CISCO-SMI/ciscoMgmt) that manages ATM virtual interfaces layered on top of Cisco physical ATM interfaces. Its central caviTable uses RowStatus-driven create/delete semantics (createAndGo) to provision virtual interfaces of type uni or nni, with each created entry producing a corresponding ifTable row of ifType atmVirtual(149); companion tables caviStatEgressTable/caviStatIngressTable and caviEgressIntervalTable/caviIngressIntervalTable then track cumulative and interval-based traffic statistics for those virtual interfaces. It depends on IF-MIB for ifIndex/InterfaceIndex linkage and on ATM-TC-MIB for the AtmVpIdentifier textual convention, tying virtual-interface objects into the standard interface and ATM data models. This makes it useful both for provisioning ATM sub-interfaces remotely and for monitoring their traffic once created, since virtual interfaces don't otherwise appear distinctly in a purely physical-interface view. It is deployed on Cisco IOS routers and ATM switches offering multiple virtual ATM interfaces per physical port, and the CISCO-ATM-VIRTUAL-IF-MIB MIB is the module engineers load to manage this feature.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CISCO-ATM-VIRTUAL-IF-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Cisco ATM-capable routers/switches (Cisco IOS ATM WAN platforms)
Monitoring Examples
An operator polls caviStatEgressTable and caviStatIngressTable for a provisioned virtual ATM interface's ifIndex; a sudden drop in ingress cell/frame counts while the corresponding caviTable row status remains active would suggest the ATM virtual circuit has stopped receiving traffic despite still being administratively provisioned.
What Can Be Monitored
- virtual ATM interface creation/row status (caviTable)
- per-VC egress/ingress interval statistics
- egress/ingress cumulative statistics counters
- ATM virtual interface type (UNI/NNI) configuration
- ifTable linkage for atmVirtual interfaces

The value of this object can't exceed the 'ifSpeed' or 'ifHighSpeed' value in ifTable for the associated 'caviPhyIfIndex'. ATM cell bandwidths for various physical lines are: OC192 line : 22605280 cells/sec OC48 line : 5651320 cells/sec OC12 line : 1412830 cells/sec OC3 line : 353207 cells/sec T3 line : 96000 cells/sec E3 line : 80000 cells/sec. |

The sum of caviMinRate of all ATM virtual interfaces configured on a single physical line, must not exceed the bandwidth of the physical line. Creation of a row is rejected when the sum of caviMinRate of all existing ATM virtual interfaces exceeds the physical line bandwidth. The value of this object can't exceed the 'ifSpeed' or 'ifHighSpeed' value in ifTable for the associated 'caviPhyIfIndex'. ATM cell bandwidths for various physical lines are: OC192 line : 22605280 cells/sec OC48 line : 5651320 cells/sec OC12 line : 1412830 cells/sec OC3 line : 353207 cells/sec T3 line : 96000 cells/sec E3 line : 80000 cells/sec. |

The range of VPI accepted by the agent depends on caviIfType. The evuni accepts a range from 0 to 255, while the evnni accepts a range from 0 to 4095. The object specifies the minimum VPI for a evuni/evnni interface. The agent ignores a SET on this object for any interface other than a evuni/evnni. | caviTable | 1.3.6.1.4.1.9.9.129.1.1.1 | not-accessible | This table is used for creating ATM virtual Interfaces. The ATM virtual interfaces are created on physical interfaces. For each entry created in this table, there will be an entry created in the ifTable with ifType atmVirtual(149). For each entry deleted from this table, the corresponding entry from ifTable will be deleted. The ifIndex value for ifType atmVirtual(149) is used for indexing to atmInterfaceConfTable for getting information on a ATM virtual interface. | |
| NUM caviViIfIndex | 1.3.6.1.4.1.9.9.129.1.1.1.1.3 | InterfaceIndex | read-only | This object identifies the ATM virtual interface number ('ifIndex') assigned to this entry, and is used to identify corresponding rows in the IF-MIB. Note that re-inititalization of the management agent may cause a client's 'caviViIfIndex' to change. |
| OID caviVpiNum | 1.3.6.1.4.1.9.9.129.1.1.1.1.8 | AtmVpIdentifier | read-create | This object is used when configuring ATM virtual interfaces of caviIftype vuni(4) or vnni (3). A non-zero value is required for vuni / vnni operation. The value set in this object for other type of caviIfTypes would be ignored by the agent. The GET operation on this object would return 0 for caviIfTypes other than vuni/vnni. |
