Description: Declares agent capabilities for Spatial Reuse Protocol (SRP) used in Cisco DPT/RPR ring topology management.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is CISCO-SRP-CAPABILITY?

CISCO-SRP-CAPABILITY is an AGENT-CAPABILITIES module from Cisco Systems that documents which parts of the CISCO-SRP-MIB a particular agent implementation supports, in the context of Cisco's Dynamic Packet Transport (DPT) / Resilient Packet Ring (RPR) technology using the Spatial Reuse Protocol (SRP). Rather than exposing live counters or configuration itself, it enumerates the object groups, tables, and notifications of the companion SRP MIB that are implemented on a given platform and software release. As a conformance statement it exposes no operational data categories of its own -- no interface counters, environment readings, or fault objects -- its only "data" is the list of supported capability groups per agent version. Because it exists purely to declare compliance with CISCO-SRP-MIB, it has no direct role in monitoring hardware or software health; any such monitoring happens through the base SRP MIB it references, on which this module is entirely dependent. It is typically consulted by network management systems and MIB compilers during capability negotiation or documentation review, not polled at runtime, and is deployed alongside Cisco DPT/RPR ring interface cards. Network engineers evaluating or troubleshooting this functionality can download the CISCO-SRP-CAPABILITY file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CISCO-SRP-CAPABILITY. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Cisco DPT/RPR ring interface routers
  • Cisco IOS network devices using Spatial Reuse Protocol

Monitoring Examples

As an AGENT-CAPABILITIES module, CISCO-SRP-CAPABILITY defines no pollable runtime objects of its own; there are no sample tables or counters to walk. Its content consists of AGENT-CAPABILITIES clauses that map supported/variation status for the object groups defined in CISCO-SRP-MIB (e.g., SRP ring topology and wrap/protection groups) against a specific Cisco IOS release. A network engineer would reference it only to determine, ahead of deployment, whether a given software image implements the SRP ring-wrap or topology-discovery groups before attempting to poll those objects from CISCO-SRP-MIB itself.
