Description: Sun Microsystems MIB extending SunManagementCenter with filesystem scan and capacity monitoring capabilities.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is FSCAN-SUNMANAGEMENTCENTER-MIB?
FSCAN-SUNMANAGEMENTCENTER-MIB is a Sun Microsystems MIB extending Sun Management Center (SunSymon) with file-scanning and capacity-monitoring capabilities, closely related to FSCAN-MIB2 but with a fuller object set. It allows files to be monitored in Full, Incremental, Tail, or Persist-Tail modes for regular-expression content scanning as well as size/growth tracking, exposing per-file name, scan mode, start/modification times, size, length, and length growth rate in a scan table. Its monitoring role is software/log and storage status: an operator uses it both to watch for matching content in log files (e.g., error patterns) and to catch a file or filesystem growing abnormally fast (fsFileLengthRate) before it exhausts disk space. It is a module within the broader Sun Management Center (SunSymon) agent product, structured alongside its sibling 'prod'/'sunsymon' MIB modules. It is deployed on Sun/Solaris servers running Sun Management Center for combined log-content and disk-capacity monitoring. Network engineers evaluating or troubleshooting this functionality can download the FSCAN-SUNMANAGEMENTCENTER-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in FSCAN-SUNMANAGEMENTCENTER-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Sun Microsystems/Oracle Solaris server running Sun Management Center
Monitoring Examples
An admin would configure fsFileScanTable/fsFileScanEntry entries by fsFileScanEntryName to watch a specific log file, then poll fsFileSize/fsFileLength and fsFileLengthRate to detect a file growing unexpectedly fast, which could indicate a stuck process writing excessive log output or an application error loop. fsFileScanMode shows whether the file is being fully rescanned, incrementally scanned, or tailed, and fsFileScanRowStatus/fsFileScanEntryDesc confirm whether a given scan configuration is active and what it is intended to detect.
What Can Be Monitored
- file/filesystem size and length
- growth rate
- scan mode (full/incremental/tail/persist-tail)
- scan start and modification time
- scan entry status
