Description: Sun Microsystems MIB for the File System Capacity Analyzer, monitoring filesystem usage and capacity thresholds.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is FSCAN-MIB2?

FSCAN-MIB2 is a Sun Microsystems MIB, part of the SunManagementCenter (SunSymon) agent family, for the File System Capacity Analyzer (fscan), which monitors filesystem usage and capacity thresholds on Solaris systems. It exposes a per-file/filesystem scan table capturing filename, scan mode, scan start time and modification time, current size/length, and length growth rate, along with row-status control for managing scan entries. Its monitoring focus is squarely software/storage status: it lets an operator track how fast a file or filesystem is growing (lengthrate) and its current size/length against expectations, which is useful for catching runaway log files or a filesystem approaching capacity before it fills and causes an application or OS failure. It operates as a module under the broader Sun Management Center (SunSymon) agent framework alongside other Sun 'base.modules' MIBs. It is deployed on Sun/Solaris servers running the Sun Management Center agent for proactive disk-capacity monitoring. Engineers can download the FSCAN-MIB2 file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in FSCAN-MIB2. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Sun Microsystems/Oracle Solaris server running Sun Management Center

Monitoring Examples

An admin would walk scanTable/scanEntry to read size and length for a monitored file or filesystem, and watch lengthrate to catch abnormally fast growth (e.g., a runaway log file filling a partition). stime and mtime show when the scan started and when the file was last modified, and rowstatus/scanmode let the operator confirm a scan entry is active and in the correct mode (full, incremental, tail, or persist-tail) for that target file.

What Can Be Monitored

  • file/filesystem size and length
  • growth rate
  • scan start and modification time
  • scan mode
  • scan entry row status
