Category: Domain: WAN/TDM, Vendor: Fluke Networks

Description: Fluke Networks OptiView WAN analyzer MIB providing SNMP objects for monitoring ATM, Frame Relay, T1/E1, and SONET WAN interfaces.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is FNET-OPTIVIEW-WAN-MIB?

FNET-OPTIVIEW-WAN-MIB is a Fluke Networks MIB for the OptiView WAN Fiber/Copper analyzer family, defining SMIv1 TRAP-TYPE notifications (values 12000-12030) rather than managed objects - the analyzer itself generates these traps as it passively monitors WAN circuits. It covers SONET/SDH link and error conditions (probSonetLinkDown, probSonetErrors, probSonetAlarms), ATM cell-layer problems (probAtmLinkDown, probAtmErrors, probPDUCRCErrors), Frame Relay/LMI issues (probFrLmiLinkDown, probFrLmiErrors, probVcDown, probInvalidDlci, probFrDEUnderCIRUtilization), HDLC/PPP framing errors, and T1/E1/T3/E3 (DS1/DS3) alarm and error-second traps, plus management-plane events like probDNSServerNoResp, probLostDHCPLease, probDefaultRouterNoResp and probKeyDevPingLatency. Every trap follows a discovered/resolved pattern via the imported ovTrapStatus object, so a condition trap fires once when a threshold is crossed and again when it clears. It's deployed as part of a Fluke Networks OptiView WAN probe/analyzer appliance tapped into a carrier or enterprise WAN circuit, and test engineers can grab the FNET-OPTIVIEW-WAN-MIB download to decode these traps in their NMS.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in FNET-OPTIVIEW-WAN-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Fluke Networks OptiView WAN Fiber/Copper analyzer/probe family

Monitoring Examples

An operator watches for probSonetErrors or probDS1Errors traps with ovTrapStatus=discovered on a monitored circuit; a probFrLmiLinkDown trap that never receives its matching resolved counterpart indicates the Frame Relay LMI session has stayed down rather than recovering, pointing to a persistent carrier-side outage.

What Can Be Monitored

  • SONET/SDH line and path error/alarm traps
  • ATM cell delineation and HEC error traps
  • Frame Relay LMI status and DLCI validity traps
  • T1/E1/T3/E3 (DS1/DS3) error-second and alarm traps
  • link utilization and key-device ping latency traps
  • DNS/DHCP/default-router reachability traps
