probDNSServerNowUsing

Module: FNET-OPTIVIEW-WAN-MIB

OID (symbolic): FNET-OPTIVIEW-WAN-MIB::probDNSServerNowUsing

OID (numeric): 1.3.6.1.4.1.1226.2.1.0.12010

Node type: NOTIFICATION-TYPE

Description: Monitor the status of the DNS server. When the management port receives no DNS reply from the server address configured via DHCP, and no DNS reply from either the primary or secondary servers statically configured by the user, and there WAS a reply to a broadcast message for a local DNS server, a trap is generated with ovTrapStatus=discovered. When the user causes a DNS server to be rediscovered via DHCP, or statically configures a valid primary or secondary server, a trap is generated with ovTrapStatus=resolved.

Examples

Send this trap to an SNMP manager — replace <manager> with the IP or hostname of your monitoring server (SNMPv2c):

snmptrap -v2c -c public <manager> '' FNET-OPTIVIEW-WAN-MIB::probDNSServerNowUsing
snmptrap -v2c -c public <manager> '' 1.3.6.1.4.1.1226.2.1.0.12010

Listen for incoming traps on the manager host (-f keeps it in the foreground, -Lo prints to stdout — useful for testing):

snmptrapd -f -Lo -c /dev/null authCommunity log public

Example snmptrapd log entry:

zoo11-linux.zoo [UDP: [192.168.30.111]:59588->[192.168.30.10]:162]:
  DISMAN-EVENT-MIB::sysUpTimeInstance = Timeticks: (388881092) 45 days, 0:13:30.92
  SNMPv2-MIB::snmpTrapOID.0 = OID: FNET-OPTIVIEW-WAN-MIB::probDNSServerNowUsing
