Description: On ExtremeXOS platforms, this Extreme Networks MIB adds vendor-specific extensions for managing OSPFv3 (IPv6) routing.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is EXTREME-OSPFV3-MIB?
EXTREME-OSPFV3-MIB is an Extreme Networks vendor MIB (under extremeAgent) based on the IETF's OSPFv3 (OSPF for IPv6) draft MIB, re-implemented with an "extreme" object prefix rather than the standard "ospfv3" prefix and extended for ExtremeXOS platforms. It models global OSPFv3 process state (extremeOspfv3RouterId, extremeOspfv3AdminStat, extremeOspfv3AsScopeLsaCount), per-area statistics and NSSA/stub configuration in extremeOspfv3AreaTable (extremeOspfv3AreaSpfRuns, extremeOspfv3AreaNssaTranslatorState), the AS-scope/area-scope/link-scope link-state databases (extremeOspfv3AsLsdbTable, extremeOspfv3AreaLsdbTable, extremeOspfv3LinkLsdbTable with LSA age/checksum/sequence objects), and per-interface OSPFv3 operational data in extremeOspfv3IfTable (extremeOspfv3IfState, extremeOspfv3IfDesignatedRouter, extremeOspfv3IfEvents). This is useful for verifying IPv6 OSPF adjacency and area health, detecting LSA churn, and confirming interface DR/BDR election on ExtremeXOS switches/routers. It depends on OSPF-MIB for shared textual conventions and EXTREME-BASE-MIB for the extremeAgent subtree, and administrators can download the EXTREME-OSPFV3-MIB file to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in EXTREME-OSPFV3-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Extreme Networks ExtremeXOS switches/routers running OSPFv3
Monitoring Examples
An operator polls extremeOspfv3IfState and extremeOspfv3IfEvents on a core-facing interface to confirm it has reached the designated-router state rather than cycling through transitions, and watches extremeOspfv3AreaSpfRuns for a sudden spike; a rapidly increasing extremeOspfv3IfEvents counter alongside repeated SPF runs would point to an unstable IPv6 OSPF adjacency causing routing churn.
What Can Be Monitored
- OSPFv3 general process state (router ID, admin status, LSA counts)
- per-area SPF run counts and border router counts
- AS/area/link-scope link-state database entries
- per-interface OSPFv3 state and DR/BDR election
- graceful restart status

If intraAreaMulticast set, indicates that the router can forward IPv6 multicast datagrams in the router's directly attached areas (called intra-area multicast routing). If interAreaMulticast set, indicates that the router can forward IPv6 multicast datagrams between OSPFv3 areas (called inter-area multicast routing). If interAsMulticast set, indicates that the router can forward IPv6 multicast datagrams between Autonomous Systems (called inter-AS multicast routing). Only certain combinations of bit settings are allowed, namely: - All bits cleared (no multicasting) - intraAreaMulticast only, - intraAreaMulticast and interAreaMulticast, - intraAreaMulticast and interAsMulticast - intraAreaMulticast, interAreaMulticast and interAsMulticast By default, all bits are cleared. |
