Description: Extreme Networks Netsight management platform MIB defining alarm objects and notifications for the Netsight network management system.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is EXTREME-NETSIGHT-ALARM-MIB?
EXTREME-NETSIGHT-ALARM-MIB is a vendor MIB defined under the Enterasys/Extreme Networks enterprise OID tree for the Netsight network management platform's Alarm Manager, defining a set of SNMP notifications that Netsight sends to downstream trap receivers rather than device-resident data. It exposes alarm message text, severity, timestamp, and the address of the originating source device plus a subcomponent identifier, all carried within notification varbinds. This MIB is fundamentally a fault/alarm-forwarding MIB: it lets a downstream SNMP trap receiver capture Netsight-generated alarms about the health or status of managed devices elsewhere on the network, effectively relaying software-level fault conditions detected by the Netsight management application itself. It depends on the Netsight management platform's own alarm-detection logic rather than another standard MIB, and is a management-layer (not device-layer) MIB. It is deployed wherever Extreme Networks' Netsight software is used as a central network management system forwarding alarms to external trap collectors. Network engineers evaluating or troubleshooting this functionality can download the EXTREME-NETSIGHT-ALARM-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in EXTREME-NETSIGHT-ALARM-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Extreme Networks Netsight network management server
Monitoring Examples
A trap receiver would capture notifications carrying extremeNetsightAlarmMessage, extremeNetsightAlarmSeverity, and extremeNetsightAlarmTimestamp, correlating them with extremeNetsightAlarmSourceDeviceAddress to identify which managed device triggered the alarm and extremeNetsightAlarmSubcomponent to pinpoint the affected subsystem. A high-severity alarm message referencing a specific source device address would prompt an operator to investigate that device's health directly, since the alarm itself is only a forwarded summary rather than raw device telemetry.
What Can Be Monitored
- alarm message text
- alarm severity
- alarm timestamp
- source device address
- affected subcomponent
