Category: Domain: Optical Transport, Vendor: Ericsson

Description: Monitors SFP/SFP+ transceiver inventory, vendor info, and basic diagnostic data on Ericsson routers.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is ERICSSON-ROUTER-SFP-MIB?

This is an Ericsson enterprise MIB for SmartEdge/SM/SSR routers that manages SFP/SFP+ pluggable optical transceiver inventory and reports active hardware alarms per card slot and port. It exposes fault/alarm data explicitly for hardware health monitoring — active alarm severity, type, probable cause, and whether the alarm is service-affecting, per transceiver location. This directly supports detecting failing or degraded optics (e.g. loss-of-signal, high-temperature, or transmit/receive faults) before they cause a service outage. It complements standard interface and entity MIBs used to identify the physical slot/port an SFP occupies. It is deployed on Ericsson SmartEdge/SSR routers with pluggable optical interfaces in carrier and enterprise edge networks, where ERICSSON-ROUTER-SFP-MIB SNMP monitoring helps catch degrading optics before they cause a service-affecting outage.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in ERICSSON-ROUTER-SFP-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Ericsson SmartEdge (MSER) router
  • Ericsson Smart Service Router (SSR)
  • Ericsson SM Metro Ethernet platform

Monitoring Examples

The eriRouterSfpAlarmActiveTable/eriRouterSfpAlarmActiveEntry expose active alarms keyed by eriRouterSfpAlarmCardSlot and eriRouterSfpAlarmPort, with eriRouterSfpAlarmSeverity, eriRouterSfpAlarmType, eriRouterSfpAlarmProbableCause, and eriRouterSfpAlarmServiceAffecting. An operator polling this table who sees a new row with high severity and eriRouterSfpAlarmServiceAffecting set to true on a given slot/port knows a specific transceiver is degrading and likely already impacting traffic, prompting a physical swap.

What Can Be Monitored

  • active SFP alarms by card slot/port
  • SFP alarm severity and probable cause
  • SFP alarm date/time of occurrence
  • service-affecting alarm flag
  • transceiver alarm type and description
