Category: Domain: Security, Vendor: Enterasys/Cabletron

Description: Enterasys Networks MIB for configuring per-port MAC locking to restrict the set of allowed MAC addresses on switch ports.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is ENTERASYS-MAC-LOCKING-MIB?

ENTERASYS-MAC-LOCKING-MIB is an Enterasys Networks (now part of Extreme Networks) enterprise MIB for configuring per-port MAC locking, a security feature that restricts which MAC addresses may communicate on a given switch port. It exposes system-wide and per-port enable/disable settings, violation-detection settings, the last MAC address that triggered a violation, and counts of allowed/allocated first-arrival and static-locked stations per port. Its main monitoring value is security status: administrators watch for violation events and the last-violation address to detect unauthorized devices attempting to connect, and check allocated-vs-allowed station counts to confirm locking capacity is not exhausted. It is a self-contained Enterasys enterprise MIB, not derived from a shared IEEE/IETF port-security standard. Deployment context is enterprise LAN switches where MAC locking is used to prevent unauthorized device attachment on access ports. Engineers can download the ENTERASYS-MAC-LOCKING-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in ENTERASYS-MAC-LOCKING-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Enterasys (Extreme Networks) enterprise LAN switch

Monitoring Examples

An admin polls etsysMACLockingPortTable per etsysMACLockingPort to confirm etsysMACLockingEnable and etsysMACLockingViolationEnable are set as expected on sensitive ports. A changing etsysMACLockingLastViolationAddress indicates an unauthorized MAC tried to use the port, while etsysMACLockingFirstArrivalStationsAllocated nearing etsysMACLockingFirstArrivalStationsAllowed warns that the port's dynamic locking table is nearly full.

What Can Be Monitored

  • MAC locking enable status (system/port)
  • violation detection enable
  • last violation MAC address
  • allowed vs allocated locked stations per port
